Ensuring access to safe housing for all trans people
Nakshy House is an organisation that supporting housing as a human right for transgender and gender diverse ('trans') people in Mombasa, Kenya. Founded in 2024, the organisation is dedicated to ensuring access to safe housing for all trans people.
Nakshy House offers several programs for trans people, including a comprehensive program of shelter and basic needs for those facing crisis. During their stay, beneficiaries are provided a safe place to stay, access to physical and mental health care, and basic needs (food, water, electricity). The program is available for three months, with transitional planning to empower long-term stability.
In addition, Nakshy House offers a program of housing assistance. This can include one-time rent relief (for those facing eviction) or one-time moving costs (for those leaving a violent or dangerous situation). This program aims to prevent houselessness or injury before they occur.
Nakshy House is a community-led, community-operated initiative: for trans people, by trans people.
Funding for our programs come from grants and small donations.
For only $25, you can provide one trans person with a safe place to sleep for a whole month.
If you or someone you know is without a place to stay or is trying to escape violence at home, please complete this form.
