Ensuring access to safe housing for all trans people
Nakshy House is an organisation that supports housing as a human right for transgender and gender diverse ('trans') people in Mombasa, Kenya. Founded in 2024, the organisation is dedicated to ensuring access to safe housing for all trans people.
Nakshy House offers several programs for trans people, including access to safe housing and other basic needs during times of crisis. During there time with the program, beneficiaries are also provided with career counselling, gender affirmation support, and referrals to physical and mental healthcare.
Nakshy House delivers a program of community advocacy and education. Through workshops and other activities, trans people are empowered on their housing rights under Kenya law. Nakshy House also conducts workshops directly with rental agents and other housing providers, aiming to engage them as allies in upholding the human rights and dignicity of all people.
Nakshy House is a community-led, community-operated initiative: for trans people, by trans people.
Funding for our programs come from grants and small donations.
